Luke 18:9-14

Questions

1.What words or phrases from the text struck me? What did I find challenging, encouraging, confusing?

2. “repentance is preferred (by Jesus) to pride in right living” Any comments?

3. “To know yourself is to know your need of God’s mercy”. Within church communities (especially) this can become a bit of a trope, an expectation. It can even be used as a bit of a put-down. How to cultivate a genuine culture of self-knowledge before God and each other?

4. Who do you “thank God” that you are not like (maybe best not share names!)? How does this diminish your engagement with other people? If that is a new awareness, how do you feel about it?
