Luke 24:35-48

Questions

1) what are your initial thoughts, emotions and reactions to the text.

2) why do you think these disciples were kept from recognising Jesus?

3) what is the significance of walking in this story? Why are these disciples leaving Jerusalem? Why is the risen Jesus walking away from Jerusalem?

4) these disciples recognise Jesus in the breaking of bread, the sharing of a meal. What experiences do you have of finding God (or other people) at meals?

5) as soon as they recognise Jesus he vanishes. Why do you think this is?

6) in verse 34 the text tells us that Jesus had appeared to Simon. But none of the gospel texts we have tell a story of Jesus appearing to Simon apart from the other disciples. What do you make of this mention of Simon?
